And the longtime King of Long Island bluegrass, Buddy Merriam, is celebrating his 30th Anniversary with what promises to be a very special show on October 16th at Berkner Hall, part of the Brookhaven National Laboratory, way out East just off the Long Island Expressway (directions here).
Like Hank Snow, Buddy’s been everywhere – performed at the Grand Ole Opry, the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, and the Nashville Fan Fair –Â and played alongside almost every big name in Bluegrass over the last 30 years, from Bill Monroe to David Grisman and Ronnie McCoury. Buddy and his band the Back Roads always put on a good show, but this one is special – there’ll be former Back Roads members on hand and no doubt a bunch of surprises as well.

Hey, Luanne, thanks for reading and especially thanks for commenting. I used to live on Long Island, but now am up in the Boston area, not exactly the world headquarters of bluegrass, but a lively and healthy community of players. What’s it like in Georgia? Any favorite bands we can feature here?
